A York County Councilman has announced his candidacy for Rock Hill Mayor. William “Bump” Roddey put out a social media post saying that after careful review of city operations and “unethical behavior by misleading the public”…he has decided to run for Mayor again. Mr.Roddey ran against current Mayor John Gettys in 2021 and again in 2017, losing both times. Most recently 4 years ago, Gettys got 51% of the vote for the victory. Mr.Roddey in his post also points out what he calls unnecessary cost increases for Rock Hill residents. He also says its not sustainable for citizens when water rates have doubled and sewer rates have tripled. He ends his post by proclaiming the people of Rock Hill deserve better and hopes to reduce cost of living, cost of utilities and “remove the self serving and controlling power structure of the mayor’s office”…The next mayoral election is this November.

For Immediate Release:
“It’s Official, I’m Running For Mayor of Rock Hill”
After a careful review of a multitude of city run programs and operations, discovering a lot of abuse and even times of unethical behavior by the city misleading the public on several key issues, I’ve decided to “Run For Mayor Again”. The unnecessary cost increases even after posting record setting numbers and record setting tourism dollars pouring into our city year after year citizens are faced with more increase cost! Financial reports show Annual revenues have increased, profits are at record highs, yet leadership continues to increase cost on the citizens. The City of Rock Hill has literally robbed its Utility Fund. Records show Annual Funds being transferred from the Utility Fund to the General Fund has hit $127M while increasing the Utility Debt to almost $500 Million over just a short period. The SC Attorney General in the past has issued an opinion not too much in favor of such activities. This is simply wrong for the citizens of Rock Hill. Water Rates have doubled, sewer rates have tripled in just a 10yr span. How is this is sustainable….it’s not!
This and other city operations and programs that takes advantage of area citizens is 100% why I’ve considered running for Mayor of Rock Hill again to stop the abuse of its citizens by the current leadership and mayor. The people simply deserves better. Let’s not miss this opportunity to reduce the cost of living, reduce the cost of utilities, and once and for all remove the self serving and controlling power structure of our Mayor’s Office. I’m prepared to lead this city!
Bump Roddey
Let’s Stop The Utility Increases, It’s Ridiculous!
