In an effort to ensure the safety of both boaters and waterways during the traditionally busy Memorial Day weekend, the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (SCDNR) Law Enforcement Division will be conducting courtesy boat inspections at various public boat landings across the state.

The Memorial Day holiday marks the unofficial start of the summer boating season, making it one of the peak times for activity on South Carolina’s lakes and rivers. SCDNR officers are proactively working to promote a fun and safe weekend for everyone on the water.

Specific to York County, the boat inspections will take place on Monday May 26th @ Allison Creek Park Landing in Lake Wylie from 10am – Noon.

Boating safety and enforcement officers will perform brief but thorough inspections of essential safety equipment and will verify proper boat and motor registrations. Importantly, boaters who are not currently in compliance with safety regulations or registration requirements will not receive citations during these complimentary inspections. Instead, officers will provide them with the opportunity to rectify any discrepancies before they launch their boats. SCDNR personnel will also be available to answer any questions boaters may have and offer valuable tips for staying safe while enjoying South Carolina’s waterways.

To report any boating violations, such as reckless operation or the suspicion of an intoxicated boat operator, the public is encouraged to call the SCDNR’s toll-free, 24-hour hotline at 1-800-922-5431 or simply dial #DNR on their cellular phone.
