On-site work is underway to replace Winthrop University’s iconic 100+ year old fountain on Oakland Avenue…
Southern Builders of Rock Hill began erecting a construction fence today around the campus landmark in front of Tillman Hall, and work on the fountain and flagpole demolition should start next week… The new fountain will be assembled in late August as parts arrive on campus-a new flagpole will be erected in November, with the entire project expected to be completed in December…The area around the fountain also will be enhanced with brick and concrete paved surfaces and seating, and accessibility at the site also will be improved…To date, more than $480,000 has been raised toward a $500,000 project goal from hundreds of alumni and community members…The current fountain was constructed between 1918-19 and is the second one at this location…
