Was the York County Republican Party unhappy with having former councilman Joe Cox running for the seat vacated by Eric Winstead?

York Technical College political science professor Rick Whisonant says perhaps that was the reason the GOP re-opened the filing period, allowing former council chairman Steve McNeely to enter the June 12 primary.

Whisonant agrees that if the GOP was happy with Cox being elected to the council, they would not have re-opened the filing period after Winstead announced he was not seeking a second term.

  1. The professor knows not whereof he speaks…In this election year where there were wholesale removals of candidates from the ballot over a technicality, the result was no choice for the voters. Elections are about the voters as much, or more, than they are about candidates. They can decide who they want to represent them and now at least they have a choice.
