Multi-State Police Chase Ends in Crash, Suspect Arrested Near Lancaster County
LANCASTER, S.C. — A suspect was taken into custody Monday afternoon following a multi-agency pursuit that began in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina, and concluded in Lancaster County, South Carolina.
According to the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office, Charlotte?Mecklenburg Police notified deputies that the vehicle involved was headed south on Highway 521 toward the Indian Land area early Monday morning, July 14.
Deputies attempted to intercept the vehicle as it approached Lancaster but were unable to do so. The driver then executed a U?turn, heading north, which prompted the South Carolina Highway Patrol to take over the pursuit.
When the vehicle reached Highway 5, law enforcement deployed tire?deflation strips. The driver lost control, left the roadway, and came to a stop after running off the road.
Fortunately, no one was hurt and no other vehicles were involved. The driver sustained only minor injuries and was safely apprehended.
As of the last update, the suspect’s identity has not been released. Charges are pending, and further details about the initial cause of the chase are still under investigation.
