COUNCIL APPROVES ANNUAL BUDGET
YORK COUNTY, SC: At the York County Council meeting on Monday, June 2, Council gave final approval to the budget for Fiscal Year 2025-2026. The $515 million budget is driven by the York County 2025-2027 Strategic Plan, which is the roadmap for how the County will prioritize funding for core services, employee benefits, capital projects, and infrastructure needs.
The budget does not contain a general fund tax increase for this year as Council continues to work to keep taxes low for our residents. In fact, this budget eliminates some taxes.
Key highlights are:
$214 million for roads, buildings, and utility projects – Demonstrating York County’s ongoing commitment to quality infrastructure for our growing community.
Elimination of approximately $2 million dollars in taxes -This is part of County Management’s plan to ensure our park and recreation funding is data driven, transparent, and accountable.
Removal of daily park entrance fees for ALL York County citizens beginning July 1 – To provide this benefit to our local citizens, fees will increase for park visitors who live outside of York County.
The budget for FY 2026 includes investments in key areas all across the County, and puts the needs of our citizens first. Some of the many highlights include: hiring additional parks staff, opening a new park, enhancing employee benefits, investing in utility infrastructure, funding for roads, funding an agriculture facility in partnership with local schools, and replacing fire vehicles, among other budget initiatives that benefit our taxpayers.
