CLOVER, S.C. — German specialty additives supplier Münzing has officially inaugurated its expanded North American production headquarters in Clover, South Carolina, marking a significant investment in local manufacturing and sustainability.

The new facility occupies 70,339 square feet on a 110-acre parcel adjacent to Münzing’s original plant. It features:

  • A 32,000 square foot processing hall with 32-foot ceilings
  • 26,800 square feet of warehouse space with an automated fork-lift guidewire system
  • 10,000 square foot laboratory
  • 8,000 square feet of office and welfare space
  • 4,500 square foot utility building and 1,300 square foot tanker unloading area
  • Nine dock positions, with certification under the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI)

The Clover site supports production of both liquid and powder additives for food and industrial applications, including organic, non-GMO, and identity-preserved options. These complement their existing operations producing defoamers for inks, coatings, adhesives, wetting agents, waxes, and foam control products.

Strategic Benefits and Sustainability Focus

The expansion enhances production flexibility, regional supply resilience, and improved customer service across the Americas. Built on land previously occupied by a tree farm, the facility aligns with the company’s goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.

Sustainable design elements include:

  • Heat recovery systems
  • Smart glazing for natural lighting and energy efficiency
  • Infrastructure for electric vehicle charging
  • Future plans for a rooftop solar array

Münzing is also advancing the development of biopolymer- and water-based additive technologies with low or zero volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions.

Local Impact and Context

Situated just ten miles west of Lake Wylie and within 20 miles of Rock Hill and Charlotte, the new facility reinforces Clover’s position in the region’s industrial landscape. It strengthens the company’s long-term presence in North America while supporting job creation and infrastructure investment in York County.

Why It Matters for Tega Cay & York County

  • Economic Growth: The facility is expected to generate job opportunities and strengthen the region’s manufacturing base.
  • Environmental Leadership: Investments in sustainable infrastructure—from solar-ready buildings to electric vehicle charging—reflect a growing trend toward greener industry in the region.
  • Food-Safety Assurance: GFSI certification underscores Clover’s role in the national food additives supply chain.
