Northwestern High School Names Ty Baumgardner as New Head Basketball Coach

Rock Hill, S.C. — Northwestern High School has announced the hiring of Ty Baumgardner as the new head coach of the Trojans men’s basketball program.
Baumgardner joins Northwestern with more than two decades of coaching experience across multiple states. Most recently, he led the basketball program at Collins Hill High School in Georgia. His previous coaching tenures include Olympic High School (NC), Westwood High School (SC), Jackson County High School (GA), and Topeka High School (KS).
During his time at Olympic High, Baumgardner’s 2013 team finished the season ranked fifth nationally. That same year, he was named the Associated Press North Carolina State Coach of the Year. Across his career, he has earned Region or Conference Coach of the Year honors eight times and has coached seven All-State players and one All-American. More than 55 of his former players have gone on to compete at the collegiate level with athletic scholarships.
A press conference introducing Coach Baumgardner is scheduled for Wednesday, May 14, at 6:30 p.m. in the F-Gym mezzanine at Northwestern High School.
The school’s athletic department and administration expressed excitement about the hire, noting Baumgardner’s history of program building and player development. Athletic Director Caleb Gaither encouraged the community to attend the press event and welcome Baumgardner to Rock Hill.
