The city of York, South Carolina, is gearing up for a magical holiday season with two special events sure to bring the community together in celebration. On Thursday, December 12, the festivities kick off with the annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony, followed by the highly anticipated Hometown Christmas Parade on Friday, December 13.

The Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony will take place at 6:00 PM on Congress Street, where the town’s iconic Christmas tree will dazzle spectators with sparkling lights, marking the official start of the holiday season. Families and friends are encouraged to come together to enjoy live holiday music, dance performances, and the warmth of the holiday spirit with hot cocoa and treats available.

The excitement continues the next evening, as the Hometown Christmas Parade takes over downtown York from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The streets will come alive with beautifully decorated floats, festive performances, and, of course, a special appearance by Santa Claus himself. This beloved tradition invites the entire community to celebrate the season of giving and togetherness.

If you’re interested in being part of this festive tradition, there’s still time to get involved. Applications for parade participants are available here, and the deadline to apply is Monday, November 25, 2024.
