American Airlines is introducing new technology to address the issue of “gate lice”—passengers who skip the boarding line. This behavior, where travelers crowd the gate before their designated boarding group is called, can disrupt the boarding process and create frustration, the Associated Press  reported.

The airline’s new system uses tracking technology to monitor when passengers approach the gate too early or out of order. It alerts gate agents in real-time, ensuring that only passengers in the correct boarding group are allowed to board. By preventing line-skipping, the system aims to streamline the boarding process, reduce delays, and improve customer satisfaction.

This move is part of American Airlines’ broader efforts to use technology to enhance the efficiency of airport operations and provide a smoother experience for passengers. As other airlines follow suit, this could set a new standard for more organized, stress-free boarding.
