According to the Charlotte Observer, numerous coffee shops and stores across the Carolinas are taking some of their products off their shelves due to potential botulism. That’s a fatal form of food poisoning. In an announcement Monday, the US Food and Drug Administration said there is a voluntary recall for all canned coffee produced that were manufactured by Snapchill. They say its because the “current process could lead to growth and production of the deadly botulinum toxim. The issue was identified when the FDA notified Snapchill that the low acid canned foods process for manufacturing the recalled products was not filed with the FDA. That is required by regulation. The canned products were sent out nationwide and include a number of shops and roasters in Charlotte, Raleigh and even Rock Hill. Here locally the Knowledge Perk Coffee Company has KP coffee, App State, Dirt World, Charlotte FC, Summer Shandy, VESL and Winthrop Coffee. The FDA did say that no illnesses have been reported and that Snapchill is not aware of any products that might contain botulism. There were nearly 100 different brands effected, for more visit fda.gov
