Scurlock not being re-appointed as a magistrate judge

Michael Scurlock of Fort Mill who once played for the Carolina Panthers will not be re-appointed to serve as a York County Magistrate Judge. Scurlock played five seasons in the NFL with it ending in Charlotte in 2000. Before being appointed a judge in 2017, he was a York County Sheriff’s Office deputy and working in public information. All other York County magistrate judges that were up for re-appointment were already re-appointed a few weeks ago.
State senators pick the magistrate candidates in South Carolina and then send recommendations to the Governor. The public does not choose the candidates.
