A 1.1 Million dollar fine has been approved in federal court against the New Indy. The paper mill generated nearly 50,000 complaints in less than 2 years. The US District Courts action happened Thursday. It finalizes and requires the New Indy paper company to improve what its doing with operations in York County,. Officials hit the company with a fine last December but needed a courts approval. On Thursday, they actually had the option of either increasing or decreasing the fine. The odors, which some have said smell like rotten eggs have been described by neighboring residents worse than other smells normally linked to paper mills. New Indy has stated they have made progress in resolving the issue.
