Winthrop Alum Creates New Scholarship for Student Newspaper
A Winthrop University alumni has opened up a new scholarship for those who work with the student newspaper. 1971 graduate Susan Hoffer McMillan has created a scholarship Endowed with a $100,000 gift.
The 1970 Johnsonian Staff Endowed Scholarship will provide one annual renewable scholarship to a Winthrop student who is a South Carolina resident and Johnsonian staff member, with first preference given to English majors.
McMillan said that she considers her two years on The Johnsonian staff-and the resulting lifelong friendships she formed-to be the best part of her Winthrop experience. The fund will begin awarding in fall 2019.
