Eagles Earn 13 Seed, Face 4th Seeded Butler Thursday In Milwaukee
ROCK HILL, SC—Winthrop men’s basketball has earned a 13-seed in the 2017 NCAA Tournament and will face 4th-seeded Butler, Thursday at 1:30 p.m. (EST) in the Bradley Center. The game will air live on TNT.
The Eagles earned their second highest seed in the NCAA Tournament after a 26-6 record as they captured the Big South Conference Championship as they are making their 10th NCAA appearance. In 2008 Winthrop was a 13-seed against Washington State and in 2007 the program had its highest seeding ever (11th).
This will be the first time the Eagles will face Butler, but won’t be the first time they’ll face a team from the Big East. In 2007 the Eagles faced Notre Dame, earning their only NCAA Tournament victory 74-64.
Fans can purchase tickets available through the Winthrop Athletic Ticket Office while they last by contacting Renae Myles (803) 323-2345. Tickets for the two-game session on Thursday are $100.
