Fanning unseats incumbent Coleman in SC Senate Democratic runoff
Challenger Mike Fanning has defeated incumbent state senate District 17 incumbent Creighton Coleman in the Democratic primary runoff.
Unofficial numbers show that Fanning received 4674 votes, or more than 56%, to Coleman’s 3635 votes. or nearly 44%.
Fanning advances to the general election, where he will face Republican nominee Mark Palmer.
Three other incumbent state senators have lost Republican primary runoffs tonight.
In District 2, Larry Martin lost his seat to Rex Rice, 54.2% to 45.8%.
In District 6, Mike Fair lost his seat to William Timmons by a huge margin, 65.3% to 34.7%.
Finally, Scott Talley, the son-in-law of Winthrop University board of trustees chair Kathy Bigham, knocked off incumbent Lee Bright in a close race.
Talley received 51.6% of the votes, compared to 48.4% for Bright.
