Off-Duty Mecklenburg Detention Officer Killed in Fort Mill Crash

FORT MILL, S.C. — A Mecklenburg County detention officer was killed in a two-vehicle crash Wednesday morning while off duty, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred around 11:20 a.m. on S.C. Highway 460 near the intersection with S.C. 160. Authorities say 30-year-old Aaron Tindall was driving a Chrysler sedan eastbound when his vehicle left the right side of the road. He overcorrected, crossed the center line, and struck a westbound Honda Odyssey.
Tindall was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Honda was transported to a local hospital with injuries. Their condition has not been publicly released.
Tindall joined the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office on April 2. Following the crash, Sheriff Garry McFadden released a statement expressing condolences.
“We are deeply saddened by the sudden loss of Officer Tindall,” McFadden said. “We offer our prayers and sympathy to his family and ask the community to keep them in their hearts during this time of grief. His passing is a great loss for our agency and our community. We also thank the South Carolina Highway Patrol for responding and standing with us through this difficult time.”
The crash remains under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
