Plane makes emergency landing at Rock Hill Airport
A single-engine plane made an emergency landing at the Rock Hill-York County Airport Monday.
At approximately 2 p.m., a Cessna 172 landed at the city-county airport, City of Rock Hill spokeswoman Katie Quinn said. The emergency landing prompted by a failure of the plane’s nose gear.
There were no injuries reported, but emergency crews responded to the airport in the event of a more severe situatin.
Airport Director Steven Gould said emergency landings are “not that uncommon” at airports across the country. Gould said during his time working at a small airport in Texas, emergency landings occurred on a monthly basis.
“These kinds of incidents are not that uncommon,” Gould said. “I’m actually kind of surprised it hasn’t happened more often since I’ve been here.”
Gould was hired as the Airport Director last summer.
The pilot was a flight instructor for FlyCarolina and executed the landing “perfectly,” Gould said.
The plane suffered little damage and the airport reopened after about 30 minutes.
