Walmart to open ‘Neighborhood Market’ store in Rock Hill

The latest round of grocery store wars in Rock Hill may soon include another Walmart.
But this time, with a smaller footprint.
Walmart Stores, Inc. Friday announced plans to open a Neighborhood Market store at the corner of Ebinport Rd. and Celanese Rd. in Rock Hill. Neighborhood Market stores, Walmart spokesman Bill Wertz said, are about 40,000 square feet, about a quarter the size of a typical Walmart Supercenter.
“This will be Walmart’s second Neighborhood Market in South Carolina,” Wertz said. “We don’t have a specific construction timetable for the Rock Hill store, but we are hopeful that we can open it sometime next year.”
The neighborhood market model launched in 1998 with grocery, merchandise and pharmacy sections and employ approximately 95 workers.
The first Walmart Neighborhood Market opened in South Carolina back in August near Greenville.
Walmart operates a total of 80 Supercenters in South Carolina and 10 Sam’s Club stores.
