A weekend outing turned tragic for one Lowcountry family.

Charleston pediatrician Dr. Charles Kisabeth died Sunday in a boating accident in the Stono River near the waters of Elliot’s Cut. He was a doctor with Parkwood Pediatric Group.

Kisabeth had gone boating Sunday with his son-in-law in the Stono River when reports say their boat capsized around 6:30 in the evening. The Department of Natural Resources says the son-in-law was able to swim to shore and call 911 around 7:30pm

The body of the 61-year-old doctor was recovered around 8:30 p.m.

Charleston County Coroner Rae Wooten says Kisabeth’s death was listed as a drowning.
