YORK COUNTY, SC – A York County Sheriff’s deputy has been arrested and charged with felony ill-treatment of animals. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) arrested Amarianne Mitchell on May 16, 2025.

SLED initiated an investigation after receiving information concerning potential animal mistreatment at Mitchell’s residence. A preliminary investigation revealed that Mitchell allegedly left her pet dog outside for multiple days without providing sufficient food, water, or shelter.

Following the arrest, York County Sheriff Tony Breeden placed Mitchell on administrative leave without pay, pending an internal review of the incident by the Sheriff’s Office.

Mitchell was booked into the York County Detention Center (YCDC). She had been serving as a deputy for two years. SLED is the lead investigating agency and will be responsible for releasing any further details regarding the case.
