NFIB: Saturday is for shopping small businesses
Saturday is a busy shopping day–and even after Black Friday, the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) has claimed a day for its members, says state NFIB Director J.J. Darby:
Small Business Saturday is a collaborative effort by a number of organizations, NFIB, American Express, and others, to promote small business. Everyone is familiar with “Black Friday” and “Cyber Monday” what these groups have gotten together to do is put together an event called “Small Business Saturday” where we are asking folks who go shopping to support their local businesses.
Darby says “Small Business Saturday” will focus attention on the heart and soul of the state’s economy.
Small businesses, as everyone knows, are the retailers and the businesses that we all know in our communities. Studies show for the money spent in these local businesses, the majority of that money stays in the community. In addition to that, as this economy begins to turn around, we all recognize that small businesses are that engine that will bring this economy back out.
Darby says he hopes to see the initiative help out the state’s workforce and get the word out about the impact small businesses have on the state,
According to all the research, small businesses make up a majority of the employers in South Carolina, and in fact employ a majority of workers. So, small businesses prospering means a significant amount for the state’s economy. We would hope, or we recognize, as the state’s economy turns around, small businesses will be the driving force to turn and we would hope that folks would help us on “Small Business Saturday” to advance that goal.
