If you’re ever wanted to learn how to catch an alligator, here’s your chance. The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will hold an alligator hunting seminar Saturday in Spartanburg County as part of the Harry Hampton Hunting and Fishing Expo at the Spartanburg Expo Center. This is the third year of regulated alligator hunting in South Carolina. It’s an increasingly popular sport.

Only 1000 alligator hunting permits will be issued this season. Nearly four times that number applied for permits.

DNR spokesman Mike Willis says every sport requires certain equipment.

We’ll talk about some of the new equipment that’s on the market for this purpose. The law states that if you’re going to harvest an alligator it has to be hooked on a line first before it’s taken. We’ll show people how to use that type of equipment.

Saturday’s seminar begins at 2 pm and will include information on hunting regulations and animal processing.
