More details have emerged involving an officer involved shooting in York County. A release from the Sheriff’s Office says Deputies responded to a restaurant on South Anderson Road to meet with a pregnant woman about a reported domestic violence incident.

The woman said she had been repeatedly hit by her boyfriend several times in the stomach. Deputies traveled from the restaurant to the home, where the boyfriend, 28-year-old Darrin Montrell Cherry, immediately opened fire with two handguns.

Deputies returned fire injuring the subject who was then detained. A child was then found in the backseat of Cherry’s car. The child was not injured. The Deputy has been placed on paid administrative leave.

This is the first officer involved shooting in York County in 2020.
