Lancaster authorities, Secret Service bust suspected fencing ring
Four Lancaster County residents have been arrested in a joint operation between the sheriff’s office and the U-S Secret Service in what’s being described as a boosting and fencing operation.
Thomas McManus, 64, Sharon McManus, 65, Harold McDonald, 30 and Jimmy Montgomery, 67, are all charged with interstate transportation of stolen property and interstate receipt of stolen property.
The federal indictment claims a group of people known as boosters stole merchandise from several large retailers, and sold them to the defendants, also known as fences, for a fraction of their retail value.
The fences then sold the merchandise at a profit, Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Doug Barfield said.
The charges carry a maximum sentence of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
