winthrop-universityA new ranking of U.S. colleges and universities puts Rock Hill’s Winthrop University among 140 top schools in their geographic region.

In a Princeton Review feature this week, Winthrop University was lauded for its diverse student body, small class size, caliber of the faculty and overall campus appearance.

Colleges and universities considered for the “Best in the Southeast” ranking are considered from 12 states including Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia.

The Princeton Review also designated notable colleges and universities in the Northeast, the Midwest and the West. From hundreds of schools considered in each region, selected colleges and universities typically feature excellent academic programs and more.

“Winthrop has built a well-earned reputation for a student-focused education that equips our graduates to succeed in their chosen fields and as informed citizens,” Winthrop University president Dan Mahony said. “We’re pleased the Princeton Review continues to recognize the variety of attributes that make Winthrop a truly special place to earn a college degree.”

For the listing, the Princeton Review collected data and surveyed guidance counselors and students attending colleges and universities nationwide. Students rated their own schools and answered questions about themselves, their peers and campus life.

Winthrop is also included in the Princeton Review’s “Guide to 322 Green Colleges.”
