Historic Brattonsville Honors 250th Revolutionary War Anniversary With Battle Reenactments

History comes alive this July as the region commemorates the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution with a weekend of historic reenactments at Historic Brattonsville. The two-day event spotlights the Carolina Piedmont’s pivotal role in the Southern Campaign, a campaign that ultimately served as a crucial turning point in the war for independence.

The weekend features major battle reenactments scheduled for 2:00 p.m. each day. Saturday, July 11, focuses on the Battle of Eutaw Springs, while Sunday, July 12, brings the historic Battle of Huck’s Defeat to the battlefield. Visitors can explore ongoing living history displays, including reenactor camps, military interpretation, blacksmithing, traditional cooking, and a special augmented exhibition presented by the Charlotte Museum of History. Timed highlights feature morning cavalry and artillery demonstrations, children’s militia drills, and a Sunday noon keynote by Lynn Heidelbaugh of the Smithsonian National Postal Museum.

For visitor safety, Brattonsville Road will be closed from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. both days. Attendees must utilize a designated detour to reach the site. From McConnells Highway (SC-322), motorists should turn southbound onto Williamson Road (State Route 560), travel 1.5 miles, and then turn right onto Percival Road (State Route 380). Following Percival Road for 2.1 miles leads directly to the historic grounds.
