Revolutionary War Comes to Life at Museum of the Waxhaws

The Museum of the Waxhaws is set to host a two-day Battle of Charlotte Living History Weekend on August 30-31. The event will bring the American Revolution to life with reenactments, historical demonstrations, and educational exhibits. The event is a joint effort to keep alive a long-standing tradition of Revolutionary War reenactments in the region.
Visitors can witness the clash of British and Patriot forces in a reenactment of the Battle of Charlotte. This battle, which took place in 1780, was a significant delaying engagement that hindered the British army’s advance.
Beyond the battle, attendees can explore a living history encampment. Here, they’ll meet reenactors portraying soldiers, blacksmiths, camp cooks, and colonial women, all of whom will demonstrate daily life during the 18th century. The event will also feature lectures and presentations by historians and authors, providing deeper insight into the region’s role in the Revolution. For those looking for a unique souvenir, 18th-century sutlers—vendors of goods for soldiers—will be selling handcrafted items.
The event will be held rain or shine, with tickets available for purchase online or at the museum entrance. It’s a chance for the community to step back in time and experience a crucial part of the nation’s history on the very ground where it unfolded.
