A woman who says she was racially profiled and wrongfully arrested in her own home has gotten a settlement through a lawsuit with the City of Lancaster. Per WCNC…the woman, Anaysheon Coffey, filed the suit federally against the Lancaster Police Department settling for 120,000. It was first filed in 2023, nearly three years after she claimed a police officer illegally searched her home and arrested her. In August of 2020, an officer knocked on her door and inquired if her child’s father was present. When Coffey refused to let him in without a warrant, the officer forced himself in and conducted a search. 19 people spoke to City Council against the officer regarding the arrest over concerns about his traffic stops and other behaviors targeting African Americans. In 2021, the officer was place on leave and given a payout of $60,000 when he resigned. Officials with Lancaster denied the allegations of Coffey and the case was dismissed with a monetary settlement.
