Travelers at Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) with small children and those needing extra time are now getting a smoother start to their journeys. The airport has introduced a new “Family Lane” at its security checkpoints, designed to ease wait times and reduce stress for families.

The dedicated lane, which is part of a pilot program, is located at the security checkpoint in the main terminal. It is specifically designed to accommodate passengers traveling with children under 12, as well as those with strollers, car seats, and other equipment that can slow down the regular screening process.

Airport officials explained that the Family Lane provides a more relaxed environment for these travelers. Instead of feeling rushed by passengers behind them, families can take their time to pack and unpack bags, handle their children’s needs, and navigate the screening process without added pressure.

The initiative is part of a broader effort by CLT to improve the passenger experience. While the lane is not mandatory, officials are encouraging families to use it to reduce congestion in the other, faster-moving lanes. The airport is also using the pilot program to gather feedback and determine whether the Family Lane should become a permanent feature.

This move follows similar initiatives at other major airports across the country, which have found that dedicated lanes can improve efficiency and customer satisfaction for all travelers. The new Family Lane is expected to be a welcome change for families flying in and out of Charlotte.
