On Monday, July 21, York County Council voted to appoint Ryan Thomas as the new County Auditor.

Thomas has extensive experience in the field, serving as auditor in neighboring Cherokee County since 2021. He has also held the role of County Treasurer, and was an accountant for an electric cooperative for six years.

Auditor is a critical position in local government. The auditor determines the assessed value of all personal property, then applies the millage rate to produce revenue to be collected by the County Treasurer. That tax revenue supports many public services, including schools, law enforcement and roads. The County Auditor plays an important role in transparency, ensuring public money is used responsibly.

Ryan Thomas spoke about his new role in York County:

“I am thrilled to be joining York County as the county auditor. I have served as both Cherokee County Treasurer and Cherokee County Auditor, and have almost 15 years of county government experience. I truly look forward to working with such a dedicated team that strives to effectively serve a fast-growing community. I believe in York’s mission to “provide quality public services in an open, efficient, and responsive manner,” and a goal of mine is to always educate the citizens on how property taxes benefit their community and essential services. It is very important to me that I earn the trust of the citizens and I want to prove that trust with my knowledge of the position along with my cordial, sociable, and approachable manner.”

York County Manager Josh Edwards said:

“Ryan Thomas brings extensive experience and a wealth of knowledge to his new role here in York County. His customer-focused vision for the position will benefit the people of York County and strategically position us for the future as we strive to become a high-performing organization.”

Thomas will begin serving the people of York County on September 15th. We welcome him to our great community.
