South Carolina families are gearing up for the state’s annual Tax-Free Weekend, offering a reprieve from sales tax on a wide range of back-to-school essentials and other eligible items. The event is scheduled to take place from Friday, August 1, 2025, at 12:01 AM, through Sunday, August 3, 2025, at 11:59 PM.

During this three-day period, shoppers across the state can purchase eligible items without paying the usual 6% state sales tax, along with any local sales taxes. The tax holiday applies to a broad category of items, primarily aimed at helping families prepare for the upcoming school year.

Eligible items typically include:

• School Supplies: Notebooks, pens, pencils, binders, backpacks, calculators, and art supplies.
• Clothing and Footwear: Most articles of clothing, shoes, and accessories. This includes items like shirts, pants, dresses, socks, underwear, and athletic wear.
