The City of Chester says they will respond to State House Representative’s Freedom of Information act request. Per the Chester News and Reporter and Progressive Journal, Mayor Carlos Williams said he will provide the requested documents to Rep John King who is asking for a number of things. To name a few, they include all credit card statements used by City of Chester dating back to 2022, a list of current employees annual salaries and contracts or agreements related to the $500,000 of in state funds that was once designated for the City’s Recreation Center. Mayor Williams called this request both “inappropriate” and “burdensome.” Williams added that Rep King has no oversight responsibility as he does not represent nor live in Chester. He also called it “targeted harassment.” Per the City administrator Malik Whitaker, this FOIA will take all of the staff of the City to deliver and have thousands of pages included. This is the second FOIA request made since getting one from Rep. Rep King last month.
