In a letter to York County, attorneys for a company headed to Fort Mill questions the ask of two council members and says they are misleading the public.
The attorney for Silfab Solar says that acting on a request to cease and desisting its plant, would be illegal, and they do not have authority to do that. Council members, Tom Audette and Debi Cloninger have both asked for this in recent months but the solar panel manufacturer wrote a letter on May 9th saying that council members are “giving citizens false hope.” While the suggestions by the council members has not made it to the agenda, people have still protested the plant at recent meetings including Monday night saying the chemicals it will be working with are hazardous and dangerous being near future schools. The Silfab attorneys continued in their letter saying the requests by council members would be “irresponsible, create confusion and would only expose the County to significant liability exposure if granted.” Even with an outcry from Fort Mill citizens Monday night, attorneys apparently advised leaders not to comment publicly on the matter due to it being caught up in litigation. This coming from Christi Cox. The issue was however talked about in executive session.
