Chester Man Pleads Guilty to Federal Methamphetamine Distribution Charge

Columbia, S.C. — A Chester man has pleaded guilty in federal court to distributing methamphetamine following a joint investigation involving several law enforcement agencies.
Alexander Wright, 33, admitted to distributing the drug after an investigation that began with complaints from concerned neighbors. According to officials, residents reported a steady stream of vehicles arriving at Wright’s home for short periods of time, raising suspicions of illegal activity.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation, Department of Homeland Security Investigations, and the Chester County Sheriff’s Office conducted surveillance and confirmed the reports. Investigators then used a confidential informant to conduct multiple controlled drug buys from Wright.
One of those transactions took place on June 5, 2023, when the informant contacted Wright to purchase methamphetamine. Under police surveillance, the informant visited Wright’s property and was instructed to retrieve the drugs from the rear passenger door of a vehicle parked in the yard. The payment was left inside the same vehicle.
Authorities later recovered 56.42 grams of methamphetamine from the informant. Lab testing revealed the drugs were 96% pure.
Wright now faces a maximum sentence of life in federal prison, a fine of up to $10 million, and at least five years of supervised release. U.S. District Judge Mary Geiger Lewis accepted Wright’s guilty plea and will sentence him at a later date after reviewing a report from the U.S. Probation Office.
