Lawsuit Between York County And Rock Hill Is Over

The final lawsuit regarding the failed Carolina Panthers site is now over. Officials with York County putting out a statement saying its time to end their legal claim against the City of Rock Hill. The suit was over an alleged breach of of contract. In December of 2022, a bankruptcy deal officially put an end to the project. While a federal judge approved deal, York County however filed a suit shorter after construction stopped earlier that year, which claimed Rock Hill was required or obligated to issue a certain bonds in the amount of 135 million. The suit stayed pending event after bankruptcy finished. The city denied the claims. Initially, the plan was for York county to pay road tax money for improvements around the site. The bankruptcy allowed York County to get its 21 million dollars back. As for the property the city got control of the nearly 250 acres back as well. In a statement to WRHI, York County Manager Josh Edwards said its time to move forward and put the matter behind them. He also said “The County has been, and remains, committed to working cooperatively with all our municipalities and is focused on building a shared vision to attract opportunities that benefit our county as a whole”
