Nigerian Man Being Held on Multiple Charges Of Sextortion Which Led To Death Of A York County Boy
A man from Nigeria was arraigned Monday in federal court on charges related to the sextortion of a 17 year old York County boy. Gavin Guffey died by suicide in 2022. He is the son of House Representative Brandon Guffey. Saturday, federal authorities indicted Hassanbunhussein Abalaore Lawal, 24 after he was extradited from Nigeria. Sextortion is the act of blackmailing using explicit images or video. Lawal is charged with five counts of child exploitation, distribution of child pornography, coercion along with cyberstalking. In exchange for extradition he will not receive the death penalty, however he does face a sentence of up to life in prison. While Nigeria has the official language of English, the US State Department warns of traveling to that part of West Africa due to the risks of terrorism and crime.
