Catawba Nation purchases nearly 200 acres near its reservation

Nearly 200 acres of land was bought by the Catawba Nation last month. Its just beside the northern part of its reservation in Rock Hill. Per the Herald, land records with York County show two properties on Mintwood Lane east of Whitehorse road and south of Sturgis sold for 9 million on January 15th. Its 195 total acres. The tribe owns other properties across the county that are not connected to the reservation through a federal trust. The Catawba Nation now his property on its southwest side of the Green Earth site with this purchase. An official with the Nation said they are not yet ready to talk about plans for the newly purchases area. Previously this land beloned to long time business leader John Hardin who was mayor of Rock Hill in the late 50’s and early 60’s. Hardin’s daughter was listed as co-trustee for the group that sold to the Catawba Nation.
