Full release from Pathways Community Center

York County, SC — With heartfelt gratitude and a bittersweet spirit, Pathways’ Board of Directors
announces the upcoming departure of our beloved Executive Director, Alex Greenawalt. For the past 3.5
years, Alex’s sweet heart, bubbly personality, and enduring commitment to helping others have been
the backbone of Pathways’ mission. Her leadership has transformed the nonprofit system, leaving a
legacy of growth, collaboration, and faith-driven impact that will be felt for years to come.
Under Alex’s leadership, Pathways has celebrated remarkable milestones. She was pivotal in driving
volunteer and donor engagement, directly supporting the missions of our 16+ on-site agencies and
enabling them to expand their programs and services. Her vision led to the renovation of a 100-year-old
building to address the growing need for emergency shelter beds and created a state-of-the-art
auditorium for nonprofit partners, business leaders, and churches to host events and workshops. In
2024, Alex proudly launched the first-of-its-kind Collective Impact Report, highlighting the life-changing
work of our on-site agencies and the power of collaboration in helping individuals achieve self-
sufficiency through improved health, financial stability, workforce development, housing, food access,
and more. Her ability to foster partnerships, cultivate a dedicated team, and drive systematic change
has solidified Pathways as a place of hope and collaboration in York County.
Looking back on her experience, Alex shared, “My proudest moments came from getting to know the
people experiencing homelessness and understanding their stories. My heart is forever changed by how
I view humanity.” Her most meaningful project, Humanizing Homelessness, sought to bridge the gap
between perception and reality, showcasing the resilience and determination of those experiencing
homelessness. By sharing their stories, Alex hopes to inspire others to take action—through prayer,
volunteerism, or financial support—while fostering greater empathy and understanding.
Though we are deeply saddened to see her go, we are overjoyed to support Alex as she embarks on the
next chapter of her career, establishing roots closer to her family, friends, and loved ones. Reflecting on
her journey, Alex shared: “God called upon this community and the Director before me to plant the
seeds, and then God called upon me to water, grow, and nourish the harvest that brought blessings,
growth, and positive outcomes from our collective work. Now, God will call upon the next leader as I
pass on the baton so they may reap the harvest, share the abundance, and plant new seeds to pave a
path forward.”

To ensure a smooth transition, Alex and the Board of Directors have prepared extensively for her
successor. The Executive Director job description is available at pathwaysyc.org, and the Hiring
Committee is seeking a seasoned leader with a faith-filled heart, strategic mindset, collaborative spirit,
and financial acumen to lead Pathways’ mission.
