Recount no longer needed; Mike Fanning releases statement and concedes to Everett Stubbs for District 17 Senate seat

Mike Fanning has conceded to Everett Stubbs for the District 17 Senate seat. There was a scheduled recount to take place next week with the State Election Commission but he called officials to tell them it was not needed. Stubbs told WRHI that Fanning called him and conceded and signed a document cancelling the recount. District 17 covers portions of Fairfield, Chester, Lancaster and York Counties.
This is a statement from Fanning on his facebook page.
“We Lost.” Moments ago, the Election Returns were confirmed… and we found out that we have lost the election to continue to serve you as your Senator. I have called Everett Stubbs and congratulated him on winning… and becoming the new Senator for Chester, Fairfield, Lancaster, & York counties (Senate District 17).
As a former high school History & American Government Teacher, I taught the power of the people in a representative democracy… to decide who their leaders will be. And while the people have rejected our leadership & service as your Senator… this election is not about me!!! It is about the PEOPLE and who THEY want to work for them. I am sad that I will no longer be able to do the hard work that Ole Yella & I enjoyed so much. Stephanie & I will forever love each & every one of you!But I am PROUD to live in America… a country where the power resides with the people (not the politicians). And, today, the people have spoken. They have chosen Everett Stubbs to lead us as our next Senator.I now ask each and every one of you – the thousands of wonderful people I have had the privilege of getting to know and working for these past 8 years…
Please join me in prayer & support of the newly elected Senator for District 17… Senator Everett Stubbs.
