University of South Carolina athletics director Ray Tanner is stepping down per a release. Per the university, Tanner is said to be transitioning to becoem a senior advisor to University Presdient Michael Amiridis. He will focus on fundraising and community engagement.Tanner will still remain the AD until someone is hired for the position. In a statement, Tanner said he is “humbled an honored to have had the great fortune to be part of the university” He also said he has agreed to stay in a new role because of his passion for the school, the city and the state. Tanner is in his 13th year as athletics director. During his tenure he oversaw six national titles and of course was head baseball coach for 16 seasons winning two of his own national championships prior to becoming the AD.
