Winthrop welcomes freshman Monday at its convocation

The Fall Convocation at Winthrop happened on Monday. The university celebrates its 139th Academic Year. President Dr. Edward Serna welcomed over 900 incoming freshman along with 300 plus transfers with a simple message. He said to give all you’ve got, embrace opportunities, and to pour yourself into Winthrop because it will pour back into you. Provided by the University there are some fun facts about this incoming class. 27 states are represented with Columbia South Carolina having the most students enrolled. The Most selected major is Psychology followed by Biology. The class includes 9 valedictorians and 8 Salutatorians. In terms of the furthest travelers, Winthrop has students from California and a few overseas from Australia and Ireland.
