Survey done by York County ED shows wages up and increased need for specialty certificates to join workforce

A survey done by York County Economic Development shows that wages are up along with some of the different incentives that businesses have used to add workforce. Over 60 companies that each participated employ over 7500 workers. The industries were mainly manufacturing but also included some warehousing and distribution. The average entry level wage is 4.9% higher from a year ago at 18 dollars an hour. Some companies in the county are paying 27.55 an hour for entry level which is up a full five dollars from 2023. In terms of attracting employees, the survey found that businesses locally are offering more incentive pay and performance bonuses along with paid maternity leave. Additionally, four in five companies say they offer profit sharing or bonuses. Lastly, York County boasts a 3.4% unemployment rate as of last month which is lower than national rates. There was an increased need for post high school specialty certificates but decreased need with people having two and four year degrees. Job openings are down 65% from a year ago.
