The Catawba Bend Preserve now officially has plans for a new entrance that will help open it up to the public. York County Council approved plans to pay Wiley Easton Construction out of Lexington more than 5.5 million for infrastructure at the main opening of the park. With this being nailed down, officials say the 1900 acre park along the Catawba could open a year from now. Included in the price tag will be a new entrance drive, parking, restrooms, fee stations and the gate itself. The park which was paid for 6 years ago for 21 million includes meadows, wetlands and five miles of river frontage. Also on Monday, the Council asked staff to put in or apply for a recreation state grant to build a disc golf course at Catawba Bend as well.
