On June 17th, 2015 in Charleston, South Carolina, nine people were killed, and one was injured, during a Bible study at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church, the oldest black church in the southern United States. Among them was 45 year old Sharonda Coleman-Singleton, a pastor and track coach at Goose Creek High School. Her son Chris, is a former minor league baseball player in the Chicago Cubs organization. Chris Singleton as a result of the senseless killing of his mother, has become a nationally-renowned speaker with a message of resilience, forgiveness and unity as well as being an author of children’s books. Chris brought his message of “Love Is Stronger Than Hate” to the annual Kiwanis Come See Me Mayor’s Prayer Breakfast.
