The York County Sheriff’s Office and York County Government are recommending that residents wear a mask or some type of face covering in public as coronavirus cases rise in South Carolina.

Both entities are continuing to encourage people to follow CDC and DHEC guidelines. Council Chairman Michael Johnson said he wears a mask because it protects others and it is the right thing to do. County Sheriff Kevin Tolson said now more than ever he is urging citizens to follow the guidelines and prevent the spread of this infectious disease.

The CDC reports that wearing a face covering reduces the transmission of the virus by acting as a barrier to help prevent respiratory droplets from traveling through the air and into other people.
