Rock Hill-York County airport developing marketing plan

The Rock Hill York County airport is developing a marketing plan to get the word out about its effect on the local economy.
In a joint meeting of the Rock Hill-York County airport commission Thursday, airport director Steven Gould said the airport creates a $6 million economic impact annually on the region.
“It allows us to take congestion away from Charlotte-Douglas International Airport,” Gould said. “They don’t want the corporate aircraft flying into [Charlotte] because they focus mainly on commercial air service.”
Gould said the Rock Hill-York County airport, as well as airports in Charlotte-Monroe Executive and Concord Regional are considered ‘reliever’ airports.
A feasibility study is now underway to determine if the York County site needs to new hangars at the cost of $1.2 million.
There are currently 24 planes on a six-month waiting list for hangar space.
