As the tourism season winds up for the summer, the York County Convention and Visitors Bureau is set to hold the annual Grits Stop at the South Carolina Welcome Center on I-77.

Bureau spokeswoman Sonja Burris says the event is designed to give visitors a first taste of what South Carolina has to offer.

Burris says the event has been a tremendous success in the past, in that visitors who are just driving through the state remember the tasty, mushy treat.

Burris is one of the organizers for the annual Grits Stop — an event that catches many visitors by surprise.

Burris says that personally, she likes her grits with bacon and cheese, but Friday’s Grits Stop will be a catch-all for visitors traveling South on I-77. Burris says that when it comes to her grits…she likes them southern style.
