Freddy Soloman was part of the 49'ers dynasty

Freddy Solomon, one of the greatest athletes to come out of South Carolina, died Monday afternoon after a nine month battle with cancer. He was 59 years old.

“Fabulous Freddy” was a native of Sumter and played his college football at the University of Tampa after he failed to qualify to enroll at USC. He went on to have a stellar NFL career as a wide receiver and was a part of the San Francisco 49’ers dominate receiving corps in the 80’s. Hall of Fame wide receiver Jerry Rice has credited Solomon for helping him learn the NFL game.

Solomon made is home in Tampa, Florida and is a legend down there. People in Sumter still claim he was the greatest high school football player to ever play in this state. Not many people argue that point. RIP
