Museums Commission still weeding down list of applicants
A York County panel is still deciding who it wants to interview for the top job with the Culture and Heritage Museums.
Tuesday seven members of the Culture and Heritage Commission said it was still collecting information from applicants for the museums’ executive director position.
Former museum employee Harry Exell has served as interim director since September, when longtime director Van Shields left in the midst of a controversial shake-up of the museums’ leadership.
Commission members say Exell’s hiring has given the commission time to complete a thorough search.
Nearly 40 applicants from across the country have applied for the permanent director’s position, but only 21 have prior museum experience.
